How to Prepare for a Reading

Although there's not much you need to do as a participant in a reading besides being present and open, many people often feel inclined to prepare themselves for the spiritual connection and communion that occurs during a session. This preparation is intended to help you be more receptive and fully present for the experience and its healing potential. It can also assist in establishing a clearer connection for when I engage with spiritual energy, whether it is your own or that of others in spirit.

Before Your Reading

Reflect on Your Intentions

While you probably had a specific intention when you booked the reading, intentions can change over time, especially since months often pass between booking and the actual reading. During Psychic and Spiritual Assessments, I tap into your soul's energy and allow it to express its most urgent need. This need might appear different from what your mind initially identified, but usually all of your questions are addressed before I check in during the latter part of the reading, ensuring any remaining needs are answered. Therefore, it might be beneficial to create a list of questions ranked by importance to you. This list can help you feel more at ease, knowing nothing will be overlooked.

For those having an Evidential Mediumship reading, thinking about the person or people you wish to connect with can facilitate that energetic link. This can look like meditating on the thought of them, praying for them to be present with you, or even looking at photographs, videos, cards or possessions of loved ones that you specifically hope to connect with. Although I don't choose which spirits I connect with—since the needs of our loved ones in spirit guide that connection—reflecting on shared memories with those who have passed can strengthen the 'call' to a specific loved one. Although no Medium can definitively explain why one spirit chooses to connect over another, it's important to remember that our loved ones in spirit are also mourning the loss of their previous life and the relationships they had. The deep love that underlies their grief and fuels the mediumistic connection helps us to understand that Mediums who serve the spirit world are serving spirit first and foremost. Consistently, the healing provided to our loved ones in spirit through mediumship also brings deep healing to us who are "living," regardless of whether the loved one with the greatest need is the one we most wished to hear from.

Prepare a Notebook to Take Notes

To assist you in validating evidence that couldn't be confirmed during your session and to serve as a future reference for the guidance provided, I offer to record all sessions. For clients who are uncomfortable or shy about having sessions recorded, I recommend keeping a physical notebook or pen and paper nearby to jot down details shared during the reading. For those who find note-taking distracting and prefer to be fully present, recorded sessions allow for focused attention and are emailed within 24 hours after the session concludes to the address given at booking. The method you feel most comfortable with is the right choice, with the main takeaway being the importance of having the ability to revisit the communications whenever you feel inclined to do so later.

Prepare Your Space

Since all readings are accessible through online video conferencing, it's important to prepare a quiet and comfortable space where you can feel relaxed and focused on the information being presented. Ensure you have a stable internet connection and minimize distractions. Unexpected events can occur, but by ensuring pets and family members are settled and aware of your appointment, you can reduce disturbances and feel more at ease during the session. Feeling relaxed and comfortable enhances your energetic connection and openness, and it can also improve your ability to remember things clearly.

Whenever possible, it's better to connect using a laptop, desktop computer, or a stabilized phone rather than a hand-held phone, which can be distracting due to subtle movements. Moreover, making sure that no photos of transitioned loved ones, personal diplomas, or any identifying items are visible in the area can help ensure the most authentic experience, as it confirms that the connection with you and/or your loved ones is genuine and not influenced by any preconceived information.

Settle Your Energy

The most effective and clear readings happen when you feel centered, especially if you're highly sensitive. Taking just 5 minutes before the reading to calm your mind, regulate your breathing, and set your expectations can help you clear away the day's events from your immediate focus and shift your awareness to the spiritual realm in preparation for the reading. A few deep breaths in and out can significantly enhance the connection before a reading. Since some people may feel nervous due to the novelty or excitement of the experience, calming our breathing can help shift our energy across the nervous spectrum.

As many who seek a reading are dealing with challenging life situations or grief, remember that doing this energy work on yourself is not mandatory; these are simply suggestions for those who wish to prepare. Coming as you are is all that's needed, whether your nerves are settled or not. Simply trying to remain as present as possible is enough to ensure a meaningful and healing experience that you’ll be able to remember and reflect on.

During Your Reading

Allow Yourself to be Open

Although you might have arranged the appointment, your loved ones in Spirit play a role in planning and orchestrating your reading, particularly in an Evidential Mediumship session.

They have a clear idea of what they want to convey to you through the Medium and their reasons for it. This might not always align with the information you are anticipating at the time, but it often becomes clear during the reading or, for some, at a later date. By concentrating too much on receiving specific details, you might overlook the messages and evidence being presented. As best as you're able, and notwithstanding information that isn't clear or resonant, try to remain receptive to whatever arises.

Being open to the process, the information received, and acknowledging that Mediums are human and may sometimes miscommunicate messages from the Spirit is crucial for experiencing the spiritual journey that sitting with a Medium provides. Individuals who want the Medium to "prove" the existence of the Spirit world or the validity of the work have already shut themselves off from the service's power: our purpose is to elucidate, not to prove. Merely being receptive and participating in a spiritual reading allows you to "prove" the reality of life's continuum and your own inherent spiritual connection to yourself and others (both "living" and "transitioned"). This experience often acts as a catalyst for spiritual awakenings, as only you can prove an understanding to yourself.

Allow Yourself to Feel

Both psychic and mediumistic readings function through energy, which flows through and propels us. During readings, I personally connect with the essence of your soul and/or the souls of your loved ones, and it is through this connection that communication occurs in this service. Grief and love are two sides of the same coin, and it is by holding this coin that the reading's connection becomes possible.

Since emotions are integral to this connection, clients often cry during a session. A reading can stir up many feelings, and tears are a natural way for our bodies to release emotions. Allowing yourself to experience your emotions in the moment can help you process what is discussed in your session and assist you in moving through grief and loss. Remember that crying or becoming emotional will not distract the Medium or detract from the communication; it is often an important part of the healing process.

Don't Feed the Medium, But Don't Starve Them of Energy Either

The most detrimental occurrence during a session is when a client reveals details about a loved one (or themselves) that I would naturally uncover through the flow of the connection. Therefore, I request that during the reading, all clients respond with a verbal yes, no, or I'm not sure, without elaborating on their answers. It's crucial that if a 'no' is received, I clarify it, as this helps me serve the needs of your loved one effectively and aids in my growth as a Medium and a conduit for the spirit world. Additionally, a verbal response is essential—rather than nodding or shaking your head—because hearing your voice helps maintain the energy flow throughout the reading. In the case of an Evidential Mediumship reading, it also helps sustain my energetic link between you and your loved one.

I deeply care for all my clients and feel honored to connect with and understand their higher selves and their transitioned loved ones. Any details that evoke memories or thoughts from the reading, or areas where you wish to provide more information, can and will be discussed at the end of the reading, ensuring there is adequate time and space for that!

Silence Your Phone and Notifications

Phones are undeniably essential in our modern lives, yet they can also distract or disrupt a Medium's connection to the Spirit if they go off during a session. We are well aware of how distracting they can be in our everyday activities, and this distraction is even more pronounced during a reading. Therefore, I suggest putting your phone on silent mode, airplane mode, or do not disturb during our session, and I also recommend doing the same for your computer if it is linked to your phone via its operating system. Similarly, disabling notifications on your computer is advised to help you concentrate on the reading as it happens.

After Your Reading

Take Time to Reflect and Process

Take some time to reflect on everything that was discussed. Journaling, meditating, or sharing your experience with a loved one can enhance the benefits of your session. If you're sensitive to energy or grieving, consider scheduling some downtime to rest and rejuvenate. A psychic or mediumship reading can often motivate you to explore your own spiritual growth and learning, and connecting with that part of yourself can help you navigate this potentially new journey.

Taking time to reflect and journal your thoughts after a reading or any significant experience can enhance the value you gain from it. This practice not only helps you remember what was discussed, but writing it down also provides a safe environment to process your emotions regarding the event. Frequently, Spirit offers insights into future possibilities, and having notes to revisit this guidance can remind you of our spiritual interconnectedness, assisting you in maintaining alignment with your spiritual path and connection.

Trust Your Intuition

The key aspect of a psychic-level or spiritual assessment session is not to make you trust the Psychic Medium, but to encourage you to trust yourself. A skilled Psychic will assist you in connecting with your intuition and recognizing the strength of your own inner wisdom and connection. This might involve asking insightful questions or providing information that your soul needs to hear. When this occurs, you may experience a sense of truth, which can help you trust your instincts more and make decisions without doubting yourself. It's also crucial for you to realize that you can naturally connect with your higher self and soul at any time, and that by quieting the mind and embracing that knowledge and connection, you can access its wisdom and guidance whenever you wish.

Frequency of Readings

Many clients inquire about how frequently they should come back for a reading or what the ideal interval is. Although it varies for each individual, six months to a year is generally the recommended duration. This period allows for the insights and guidance from the reading to organically unfold within your life. Returning too soon might disrupt your intuition and instincts, making you reliant on a reader, which is the antithesis of what genuine spiritual service is about. You are your own most powerful source of connection, and you should never feel reliant on any external party for that connection.
